| What is Adult Basic Education?
Adult Basic Education is a competency-based program of instruction for native or foreign-born English speaking adult students who need to develop fundamental skills in reading, writing, and arithmetic. The primary level is for adults who have very limited basic academic skills and would benefit from individual or small group instruction. The intermediate / advanced level provides concentrated attention in English, mathematics, social studies, and science. This level serves as a transition for the GED Preparation Program.
The Adult Basic Education Program integrates the life skills curriculum of the Connecticut Competency System (CCS), a competency based program of the Connecticut State Department of Education's Bureau of Adult Education & Training.
